I remember last time I wrote rant on PowerBook’s SuperDrive ability to perform at its suppose to be rated performance (8x SuperDrive) which powered by unfamous Matshita UJ-835E. To make the story fair I personally think that it would be wise to inform that Apple has fixed the problem with the SuperDriveFirmwareUpdate2.0 that would add more stability and performance on your UJ-835E SuperDrive. Of course this is a rather late announcement. Apple release the patch on 5/31/06, while now is already September. I should say that I’m no longer carry PowerBook 15″ 1.67GHz at the moment (but I do now on 12″), so I should say (though it’s late) Thanks Apple! for concerning to our problem.
So for those of you who own UJ-835E (PowerBook G4 (12 -inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.33GHz, 1.5GHz, or 1.67GHz), PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz), iMac G5 (17-inch 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz), iMac G5 (20-inch 1.8GHz), Mac mini G4 I should say that you might want to update your SuperDrive firmware. Do it with caution as instructed, and it requires Mac OS X 10.4.6
Kudos to Apple engineering team! ๐

May I just say what a comfort to find an individual who actually understands
what they are talking about online. You definitely understand how to bring a problem
to light and make it important. More and more people
have to check this out and understand this side of the story.
I was surprised you aren’t more popular since you most certainly have the gift.
