Addressing my friend’s Andika blog on his destiny to round the “Indonesia globe” as his crusade, I challenged him to remember every bit of our life before the Internet time.
So what is the Internet time? Well, I can’t define it myself. It’s all depends on how and when Internet starts consuming your life. Some people start early in 1996, others could be earlier, most Indonesians is somewhere in 2000 and the rest are after year 2000. It’s nothing important (Once; an Indonesian artist claimed that she wanted to have her own personal web pages 10 years ago — the news circulated on 2000. Huh? Come on, the net is barely exist on that time ๐
So… who were you before the Internet time? For me here’s some of the things that I remember clearly.
1. I was a golf addict, played golf at the age of 4-5 years old. In the age 16, I had a single handicap. I was a national player once and now just a social player :))
I was came from ordinary family, but it just happened to be lived in rich neighborhood were everything is free. Next to my house lies a golf course.
2. I caught big fishes very often… 4-5 kilos of Arowana. So when I now a truly citizen and consumed by the Internet, people will have a very hard time believing that it was me catching those big rare fishes!! — And yes, I eat hundreds of those very expensive rare fishes ๐ — my city friends sometimes even called my photos a photoshop-fake hahaha…
3. I was a boy-scout addict. It was started ever since I was on the 3rd grade and all up until on mid junior school high. I was national boy-scout on Cibubur, Jakarta 1986. Participated on various other province’s events.
4. I was a mathematician and physicists geek. I had a perfect 10 on national exams of mathematics (Ebtanas) and STTB (transcripts) for junior and high schools. That’s maybe one the reasons that drove me to Departement of Physics, Institut Teknologi Bandung. Once, I even too snob to walked out without finishing the exams since I believed the equation was wrong. Funny that I lost my appetite on those subjects once I entered the higher education ๐
5. I was a karate kid. How good I am? Well, can’t say on that here… just let’s say enough to warn you, not to playing a fool with me since I can always break your neck
Wanna share some stories about who were you before the internet? …

Hmm, let me dig deeeeeep. I was an electronics junkie, from analog to initial digital (TTL, 74 series, not CMOS). Then Orari. Then Merpati Putih. Oh, and some photography too. Remember total solar eclipse in 198x? It was verrrry funny that our beloved government warned everybody *not to go outside* to save them from blindness. I got a photo of very-high-noon-and-very-empty-street.__What else? Hmm. Nothing much, aside of that I got several 10s since SMP.
