FireWire for Man, USB for Mice

Macintosh, Social, Technology 12 Comments »

Salah satu hal yang paling mengesalkan dalam hidup berkomputasi ini adalah kehilangan data. Data? Yep, data growing that big, that it is almost impossible to backup it on a single DVD. *Jadi inget jaman data gua masih bisa disimpan dalam 2 CD doang πŸ˜€

Beberapa hari yang lalu gua ketempuan lagi. Ada temen minta tolong dibenerin PowerBooknya dan minta dicopyin iLife. Yup, setelah beres ngebenerin, jadi coba akses 2 HDD nganggur 320GB SATA pake kabel USB to SATA. Copying…. dan coba di mount. Dang ga bisa! halah. Hmm terus coba lagi… pieuw… HDD gua tiba2 ga keliatan. Jack ass. Gua coba cabut kabelnya tancepin lagi. HDD tidak dikenal, minta diinitiate (format). Whot… Well, emang ini kali ke sekian gua pengalaman busuk dengan USB. As people said, USB for Mice.. FireWire for Man.

Jadi aja cari akal ngoprek. Coba semua cara. Kalo di PC biasa pake Ontrack Pro, nah disini gua coba pake Disk Utility benerin Invalid node nya. Won’t work. Pake TechTool Pro, don’t work, coba DiskWarrior, kagak sempet dah putus koneksi donlot (240MB).. hmm akhirnya coba Data Rescue II.

Well here I am trying to retrieve my 320GB worth of data using 2 PowerMac G5… Lah kok pake G5? Ya itu SATA juga masalah boss. SATA to FireWire kalo pake chip JMicron ato Prolific forget it lah… SATA is sooo fragile, you should go with Oxford 924 based chip (The problem here is none of local dealer carry Oxford chip casing, and it’s so expensive — in their opinion). When you lost your data, nothing is so important than trying to recover it no matter what cost it. The only thing you wanna scream when dealing with cheap casing is… F*ck!

Lucky me using Apple. Apple is so neat having Target Mode, lu cuma perlu teken T pada saat booting dan voila you punya HDD udah ke mount jadi External Drive di mesin yang lain. Dengan realibitas 100%! Well.. jadi ceritanya gua pake G5 yang satu lagi cuma buat casing doang hahahaa…

Here’s the shot:

$3 Windows XP + Office. Now You’re Talking!

Vista sales is a mess. Microsoft knows that and has to swallow the bad pills. Vista known to be sold only 200++ boxes in China. Gosh. Can’t imagine how much money Bill would lost for this (for people who actually never touch the money — only numbers on papers, I don’t think he actually lost it. For sure, this is only will make Bill Gates angry for the rest of the quarter, and makes his executives sweat big time. πŸ˜€ ). Yeah who will appreciate a “interface make over” OS. Vista is not substantial upgrade for computer owner. Yeah it’s substantial resources killer πŸ˜€ Got less than 2GB mem? What? Only 512MB? Forget it. Go get yourself a useable OS. XP for now for you PC fans.

Even Dell knows how to satisfy his customers. Slow demand for Vista, just make him re-offer XP as bundle offering. Oh la la. Feels like the new MacBook Pro have to bundle with OS 9 due slow adoption of OS X 10.4 πŸ˜€ Never happens in Apple lands.

But Bill is Bill. The genius  sales person earth ever faces. Now he came up with Bill Sales Plan 2.0; To resell Windows XP + Office bundle for only 3 US dollars for students in China. Damn, you’re genius Bill. You really know how to serve the market. When people is only struggle for 100 dollars a month paycheck, why would they spend $299 dollar for flop OS like Vista. With millions students will be back in Microsoft’s flag, this strategy will definitely a clear winner for Microsoft. Gaining booster from education (who soon become executive, and ready to buy big time Microsoft’s hefty price tag), in the same true moment is serving 5 billions people who haven’t reach by PC revolution. Damn you’re genius Bill (read: 3 x 5,000,000,000 ~ 15,000,000,000 dollars potential market).

Now you’re talking! This same true strategy will work just fine in any other country outside China, just as it would work well in Indonesia. I keep telling Apple executive to follow the path, but they ain’t listening. Imagine, the same moment Vista sales flop and slow adoption, all sudden Apple re-introduce Mac OS X Retail Edition for PC White Boxes. Hahahaa…. It’s only happening in your dream. Dream on, lad. Apple will never be a mainstream. Dang!

You Can’t Beat Mac OS X, Yet!

Macintosh, Technology 29 Comments »

When it comes to security, you can’t beat Mac OS X, yet!! Yes rage on. This is what McAfee write in its latest report. Today, there’s 236,000 malicious malwares, mostly for Microsoft Windows environment. Only 700 hundreds written for UNIX/Linux. And even less than 7 for Mac OS X.

Just spent my last few days reinstalling Lenovo 3000, Damn! it even doesn’t come with the right sound driver on the it’s website. The whole university (classified) who bought the machine for 700,000 rupiah x 12 (installment) now mumbling about this lausy machine. The whole drivers (and even my ThinkPad T43) is 750 MEGABYTES… SEVEN HUNDREDS ONLY FOR DRIVERS?? Dang! I now can imagine why Jim Allchin (ex Co-President, Platforms & Services – incharge for Vista release) would buy Mac if he’s not working for Microsoft (he finally left Microsoft the day after Vista launch).

Until the day Mac has more malwares and viruses than Windows, I’ll stick with the Mac. Rage on!
