No More Original Ideas Comes From Redmond? Ouch.. Server Core Anyone?

Technology Add comments

I just read today’s news “Server Core: Windows Without Windows” that can’t help me but shaking my head. No more original ideas from Microsoft? Ouch what happens to you, lads? First it was started when Apple announcing the next generation OS, Mac OS X, then Microsoft “mimics” by announced the XP (X with additional P) and called it XPerience. Ouch. Then, Apple with Tiger 10.4 came with Dashboard and Widget, now Vista got the Windows’ Gadget. It was Apple with Quick-thingy, QuickDraw, QuickDraw 3D, QuickDraw GX, QuickTime, then Microsoft came with ideas of “everything-Direct”… the DirectX, DirectDraw, DirectPlay (ouch). Today’s Apple came with Core-thingy, Core Audio, Core Image, Core Video, and later Core Animation on Leopard (10.5) release, and now Microsoft Server Core. Intel also came along with Apple first with Core thingy.

Of course Microsoft’s thingy would be much more popular than Apple. It consumes 90% plus Desktop OS in the world. But don’t you have anymore originalities dude? Follow my suggestion, “if you’re smart ass marketer and want to work without using too much brain, then work for Microsoft!”

Before I forgot, anyway, Microsoft Server Core is nothing new, it’s like using nliteos, or BartPE… duuh.

What else is new? There’s some distinction from being innovative and business-viable. I mean, yes Microsoft copied alot of things from their competitor but ditto for Apple. They are shouting MS steals our GUI! God damnit, Apple steals the GUI from Xerox in the first place.

    Apple fanboy just tires me…

LOL, no offence meant, just have to release it somewhere 😀

PS: I’m using an iBook to write this one, so don’t call me a microsoft brat 😛

Wakakakaka do you think I’m a fan boy? Dude, you don’t know me yet!
I slam Apple as much as I slam everyone else. I just an IT geek who
    like to tell the truth.

This is also common misunderstanding in history. Apple did not steal Xerox GUI, instead Apple gave Xerox million stocks in return. Do your google before shouting please.

@Adinoto: sure you can give Xerox a share of the company, but that doesn’t mean GUI is an innovation of Apple. It’s like stealing something and share the credit with the one you stole from.

But again, stealing maybe too strong for a language though… The bottom line is, Apple is copying stuffs from the past too, not just Microsoft.

-> Ah betele-tele nih. Sapa juga bilang GUI is an innovation of Apple. You SAID “God damnit, Apple steals the GUI from Xerox in the first place”. I SAID “This is also common misunderstanding in history. Apple did not steal Xerox GUI, instead Apple gave Xerox million stocks in return. Do your google before shouting please.”

Stealing not a strong word. but God damnit YES. AND YOU GOT IT WRONG. READ MY FIRST LINE BEFORE ARGUE. CAN? Apple gave Xerox millions stocks in return. It was a trade business. and IT IS COMMON MISUNDERSTANDING IN HISTORY.

  12. Oskar Syahbana Says:

Yes, I already read your reply to my comments and yes I have to apologize for use of strong words. But let’s look again on your own post. The post exactly make Microsoft just like a bunch of guys that constantly copies from Apple while Apple is the single company that goes on innovation front.

Widget? Puhlease, Konfabulator (which is bought by Yahoo) predates Apple’s widget on this one (so no, Apple doesn’t innovate on this one).

QuickDraw, QuickDraw 2D, and QuickDraw GX vs DirectX? I don’t think this is a fair comparation. The Quick-something is a graphic engine (API, whatever) while DirectX is also an engine, but not just a graphic engine (more like multimedia engine) that controls not only graphic experience (2D, 3D) on Windows but also audio experience — which makes Windows a strong gaming ‘console’, not Mac. So saying DirectX is a direct copy of Apple’s Quick-something is really overrated.

And Microsoft never states that “hey our product is very original, please buy it”. They ship people that ordinary Joe can buy and use (not sure this argument is still valid when MacOS X ships). Sure Apple does not steal Xerox GUI and you might say that this is a direct misunderstanding of what is happening but then again, Apple acts like GUI is their invention. Heck, that’s why the open-source community left them in 80s-90s because they sue Microsoft over the originality of MS’s GUI vs Apple’s GUI (in which is won by Microsoft by the way… they can’t have any patents on such things)

Now, if you can’t read between the lines, all of my posts is all about “Apple is not the only company that innovates (sometimes they steal or buy ideas and originality too), Microsoft is not always copying Apple’s product (although they sometimes do that)”.

I have all my facts from these books (besides the internet that is):

Iya. Emang. Cuma yang saya bahas Naming Systemnya. Coding dimana-mana beda boss. Soal naming system cerita paling baru = Istana Plasa (Pengembang di Bandung) juga bikin Suci? *Lupa CORE. Lagi rame-ramenya penggunaan kalimat Core. Istana Plasa CORE = Commercial Resident. Gimmicknya.

Apple is the single company that goes on innovation front? Mostly yes. Kita bicara IT kan? Microsoft? Dulu tidak. Sekarang Microsoft punya Bill Lab. Sun? Dahulu cukup satu orang “Bill” Joy Lab. 🙂

    Answer:
Iya, Konfabulator bukan kreasi Apple.

    Answer:
Iya.

Maksudnya apa nih boss? Sorry inggris saya jelek.

Setuju. Apple is not the only company that innovates. Saya cuma nulis kenapa perusahaan gede hobbynya cuma copy Naming System. Musim CORE semua pake nama CORE, musim duren semua pake nama duren.
