One of the most frustating experience in using Mac is the lacks of the-latest-greatest Yahoo Messenger on the platform. Of course you still can always use AdiumX as a multi-protocol IM, but it’s not always the case. The Adium built with GAIMlib which unable to connect to Yahoo on strict proxy (Unable to connect through tunnelling port 5050). And the old YM! 2.5.3 is a sux application. Built around Carbon apps rather than Cocoa framework (Carbon is an old library that allows build once ran any Mac OS 9 and X during OS 9-X transition) A very old app, and crashed too much!
I’m right in the middle of setting up a Tunnel server to get my Adium working on my client’s site today, until I accidentally check out the yahoo site. Voila, there’s Yahoo 3 Beta for Mac! Yahoooooo… though it’s not the same as the Windows cousins, it built around Mac Intel in mind, a.k.a Universal apps… wow! Now you’d just made my day 🙂
Now if only I can make the icon and the list in smaller icons… since I have hundreds of friends list… Yahoo seems you’re showing a commitment to the Mac platform once again. Thanks for making my day easier! And don’t forget to make the icons smaller please. 🙂 We need that badly.

btw. ada yang tahu cara pasang gcc3.x di mac intel? 😉 Lagi butuh nih buat compile mplayer. Gw embed some codes di mplayer, yang ternyata si mplayer gak bisa dicompile pakai gcc4.0.

Gw barusan baca di net kalo beberapa mac guru malah udah hijrah dari mac ke ubuntu+lenovo. Primarily sih karena pada sebel sama DRM nya Apple. Anyway….

-> Kemaren pas juga setup Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server.. halah yang ada pengen praktis jadi baru pagi ini doang kelarnya (24 jam) kepotong hari kerja jadinya wakakka.. lah reminds me alot why I hate network-install 😀 … luama download componentnya bosss… enaknya admin cuma jadi pemalesan apt-get install 😀

1. Most the best game titles available on Windows also ported on Mac 🙂 *padahal Linux user ga protes malah ga ada games kecuali Doom, Quake etc 😀

2. If you’re a serious gamer get yourself an XBOX 360 😀 … a whole lot easier (no install, re-install games/windows when problem occures), a whole lot cheaper (compare to buy a latest greatest grapchis card :D)

Install gcc3.4 lewat darwinport gagal karena gcc3.3-nya “gak komplit” itu.
Compile gcc3.3 via source (download dari darwin site) berhasil (with small hack), tapi gak berani pakai. 😀
Hasil penelusuran di tempat mbah gugel ternyata memang banyak kasus orang yang tidak bisa memakai gcc3.3 di mac intel. Mungkin om apel tidak ingin usernya memakai gcc3.x di mac intel for some unknown (yet) reasons. 🙁
Install mplayer via darwinport juga gagal.
btw. gw butuh mplayer bukan buat nonton DVD, tapi dioprek source codenya buat develop an application. 😉

-> Salah satu advantage gcc 4.0 adalah gcc itu ditune untuk x86. nasib jelek untuk powerpc 😛 *ngacirr… gcc ga pernah di tune (untuk performance) di platform selain intel 😀 …. karena itu ada advantage apple go with gcc 4.0 instead of old gcc 😀
ya kalo nasib ngoprek ya nasib lah pak 😀 … bikin library sendiri aja 😀

-> walopun versinya rendah (3.0) terhadap 7.5 ato 8.0 windows, tapi YM! Mac jauh lebih ok… tinggal double click langsung webcam… pokoknya mac design in mind banget (simplicitynya conform dg standard apple)
hanya yang masih kurang sreg, pada saat pake avatar iconnya kegedean, dan warna masih terlalu keras (terlalu gelap) saya paling suka warna Camino.
dan fitur windows chatnya juga masih agak clumsy relatif dibandingin Adium.
MSN? Lah pake Adium juga bisa semua pak! 😀 cuma ga bisa webcam aja 😀

di kampus aku kan pake VPN, jadi kita mesti konek ke VPN dulu untuk dapet IP baru… ok.
trus kalo mau hubungan dengan internet, kita mesti pake proxy server dengan alamat jaringan VPN. untuk browser sih udah bisa, tinggal setting HTTP Proxy kan?
nah kalo untuk YM gimana? kalo YM windows kan ada settingan proxy-nya. kalo di mac kok gak ada?
*terpaksa pake YM on Windows via Parallels. hahauhauhuaha….

Di YM for Mac setting Proxy ngikut ke System Preferences. Disitu ada pilihan Behind Proxy, dan kemudian set di Network Preferences aja.

-> Untuk keperluan text only saya sih masih prefer AdiumX.com karena support multiprotocol dan bisa tab windows. Simple gitu kecil pula di layar. Tapi karena AdiumX pake gaimlib dan untuk proxy yang ketat ga bisa lewat (karena yahoo ngubah terus protocol dan system authentikasinya) maka harus lewat Tunnel Server, unless kalo ga mau repot ya pake YM aja khusus untuk yahoo.

Y!M mac still sux. Maklum fakir bandwidth bos. webcam gak kepake (bisu pulak). avatar gue sering kebalik, bikin berat ppc g3 yang udah makin uzur. adium lebih yummy. beruntung gue gak di belakang proxy ketat. lagian gue monitor temen2 mac user di aim …. masak musti buka ym ama adium. adium aja lah … murah meriah.
